The Bryce Harper-Mike Trout Debate: Who would I take?
June 13, 2012 Leave a comment
Last year, the Los Angeles Angels called up Mike Trout at the end of their season. Trout was drafted in the 1st round of the 2009 draft and had 5 HR’s and 16 RBI’s in 40 games with the Angels last season. Around the same time, Bryce Harper was an 18 year old in the minors who had already been heavily covered as a 1st round pick and through contract discussions.
Fast forward to 2012, where Trout and Harper are both having incredible seasons. Harper is batting .307 with 7 HR’s and 19 RBI’s for a 1st place Nationals team while Trout is equally impressive with 6 HR’s, 26 RBI’s and a league leading 15 stolen bases.
With both of these young players tearing up the major league’s, the debate across the sports world is who would you rather build a team around.
Harper has obviously been the more publicized one and the 19 year old phenom is one year younger than Trout. They both play the outfield and Trout has one year more of experience. He has more speed although Harper seems to have a better arm in the outfield.
While it is a win-win situation, I think I’ll take Harper for now. He has more power and in my opinion has more upside. Both of them are going to be great players, but if I had a choice I’m taking Bryce Harper.
