Mike Wallace wants to be paid like one of the best, but does he deserve it?

With Mike Wallace’s tender by the Steelers, he was available for offers from any team that was willing to give up a 1st round pick. One of the teams that was thinking about picking up Wallace was the San Fransisco 49’ers. It’s not surprise that we’ve heard so little about Wallace over the past week of free agency with the news coming out today that Mike Wallace wants a contract that is bigger than the contract that Larry Fitzgerald received last year.

For anyone who forgot or doesn’t know, Larry Fitzgerald was given an 8 year, $120 million contract with the Cardinals last year.

Yikes. The contract is a lot even for Larry Fitzgerald, but he’s earned it with the consistent play as one of the league’s best wide receivers. Fitz was the highest paid WR in the NFL before Calvin Johnson got his mega deal this offseason.

Wallace has only been in the league for three years and while he deserves a new deal and a much higher salary than what he’s getting from his rookie contract, but Larry Fitzgerald deserves to make much more than Wallace.

Fitzgerald is one of the top WR’s in the NFL. Besides Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson, there’s not many who are on his level. Wallace has big play ability but  isn’t the all around receiver that Fitzgerald is.

Wallace’s career year in receptions was this past year, when he had 72 receptions. Fitz hasn’t had less than 72 receptions since 2006. In 2010 Wallace had his best season with 1,257 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. Fitzgerald has had 10 or more touchdowns four different times in his career, and he has led the league twice in receiving touchdowns. Fitzgerald has also bested Mike Wallace’s 1,257 receiving yards three times.

Mike Wallace is a very good receiver. He’s one of the ten best in the NFL, but he’s not on the same level that Larry Fitzgerald is and he doesn’t deserve to be paid like him.

completely agree. Wallace needs a few more years of legit stats to receive Fitz money.
