CFC NBA Playoffs Round 2 Preview

Let’s all be honest with each other. The first round of the NBA playoffs weren’t that great. Sure there was some good games, but everybody we thought would win pretty much did. That’s okay though, because it looks like we’ll have some closer games for the second round.

Before that though, I just want to say how ridiculous the NBA’s playoff scheduling is. Why are we having Game 1 of the Celtics vs. 76’ers series on the same day that the Lakers vs. Nuggets Game 7 is and a day before the Clippers vs. Grizzlies Game 7? It doesn’t even begin to make sense, and I don’t think it’s going to hurt the NBA if they wait a day before doing that. It’s ridiculous.

Anyway, the second round is upon us and here’s my preview with who I expect to make the Conference finals, starting with the Eastern Conference.

(8) Philadelphia 76’ers vs. (4) Boston Celtics

Ladies and Gentleman, the Philadelphia 76’ers! The team that I predicted would lose in 5 games beat the 1 seed Bulls, even though it most likely wouldn’t have happened if Derrick Rose and/or Joakim Noah get hurt. Sometimes it just takes luck though, and I’m sure they’re hoping Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are the next one’s to get the injury bug.

Even though Game 1 of this series has been played already due to the ridiculous scheduling I talked about above, it doesn’t impact my thoughts on this series. You can tell what I think of the 76’ers from my first round prediction and I still don’t think they’re that good of a team. Once again, I’m picking against them.

Prediction: Celtics in 6

(3) Indiana Pacers vs. (2) Miami Heat

Isn’t it great to be the Miami Heat? You’re one of the best teams in the East already, you’re biggest competition gets eliminated because of two devastating injuries AND Chris Bosh gets hurt. Just kidding about the last one. Or am I?

With or without Bosh, we all need to come to the realization that this team is going to win the East. They are going to roll through the Pacers and even though the Celtics will put up a fight, they will take care of them too. The Heat are too good of a team for the rest of the East and they just need to avoid losing one of their Big 2 before the Finals.

Prediction: Heat in 5

WESTERN CONFERENCE

(1) San Antonio Spurs vs. (5) Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers survived their series against the Grizzlies, but have run into the Spurs in the 2nd round. Even though I think the Clippers are a good team I’m not sure that they can run with the Spurs. Unless Chris Paul can put together an amazing performance each game, I don’t think this series is going to last that long.

Prediction: Spurs in 5

(3) Los Angeles Lakers vs. (2) Oklahoma City Thunder

Both Los Angeles teams went to Game 7’s and then both had to turn around and play teams that swept the first round. There’s some bad blood brewing here as a result of Ron Artest’s return from suspension for elbowing James Harden. Those two players will be key for their teams, as the Lakers need Artest’s defense and the Thunder could be unstoppable if Harden plays like he did in Game 4 of their first round series against the Mavs.  This is going to be a good and physical series, but in the end I have to go with the Thunder.

Prediction: Thunder in 7

I’m definitely on-board with all four of those picks.
