Why the Knicks shouldn’t go after Steve Nash

As a fan of the New York Knicks, I’ve seen the bad. Unfortunately, it’s only been the bad because for most of my life they’ve been bad. In my life I’ve seen the Knicks try and try again to build a team. While teams like the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder build through the draft, I’ve watched the Knicks do the complete opposite. As a matter of fact, only one player drafted by the Knicks since 2007 is still on the team. That player is Iman Shumpert, who they drafted last year.

Part of the reason that Shumpert is still on the Knicks is because they just drafted him last year and haven’t had the opportunity to trade him for an old veteran yet. They are trying their best to do that though.

If the Knicks were to get Steve Nash, they would have to depart with Shumpert and also wouldn’t be able to bring back Jeremy Lin. Bringing back Jeremy Lin isn’t a huge deal, because I’m not so sure he’s a great point guard like some others. Shumpert, on the other hand, is going to be a great player for many years.

Shumpert burst onto the scene with the Knicks last year and immediately helped make the Knicks a better team, especially from the defensive side of the ball. Even though he’s only been in the league for a year, he’s one of the best on ball defenders in the league. He brings them so much value on the defensive side of the ball that I think he is more valuable then Nash.

Steve Nash is a great player and we all know that. He’s going to the Hall of Fame. At this point in their respective careers though, Shump is more valuable than Nash. He’s 22 compared to the 28 year old Steve Nash. While Nash may be the better offensive player right now, Shumpert is by far better at defensive and is an important part of their future.

This trade once again brings forth what’s been wrong with the Knicks organization for the past decade. Instead of looking towards the future, once again they can only look at their situation right now.

  1. As I read this article, I realized the importance of defensive and offensive parts of the team and how it each of them is played by a team member. Like in this case, Shumpert plays a vital role as a defensive team member while Nash is on the offensive side.

Knicks once again fail to get their man. Happiest man in New York, Jeremy Lin. They could have used Nash as well but much like LA, how Nash meshes with the ball dominating ways of another superstar is an issue for sure. Maybe this is the best for the Knicks, who knows? I guess now they get to really see what they have with Linsanity. Also, you think you could check out my blog cuz I’d love to hear what you have to say http://chrisross91.wordpress.com/2012/07/05/head-over-head-for-steve-nash/

Yeah Lin is in line for a nice big raise right now. He’s already getting offered 30 million, whether that’s right or not. And yeah I’m not sure how he’s going to fit in with Kobe but for Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum this is great news. Just followed you on twitter, too.
